Fostering is a key part of rescue work! With the help of fosters we can save so many more lives, create a sense of home for vulnerable rescue animals, and address health or behavior problems rescue animals may have so that they can live their best lives in their future forever homes.

To become a foster we have some guidelines, processes, and rules to follow so everyone is set up for success!

Fostering Dogs

Fostering Cats

Cat fostering can be less of a commitment than dog fostering and still help save lives. Special cases such as medical issues, behavior & socialization can take more time but make even more of a difference. There are some things to know about fostering cats that can help you both succeed.

Fostering Kittens

Kitten fostering can be very rewarding and help save many lives. Kittens fosters’ commitment can range from very high to somewhat minimal, you let us know what you are comfortable with so we can match the kitten litters to the best foster homes. There are some things to know about fostering kittens that can help you all succeed.

Fostering Dogs

Our process & rules for fostering dogs:

  • Sign up as a foster, we review your application and arrange to meet with you at your home. After an inspection and interview we’ll let you know if we will add you to our Foster Roster and you can expect us to reach out when we have a need for a foster.
  • Fosters are expected to properly feed, water, keep clean, and interact with their foster dog to support their health and happiness.
  • Special cases: medical or behavior issues that are brought to the fosters’ attention should be addressed while the dog is fostered so that the dog can be healthy and mentally or emotionally ready to go to a new forever home. Any health or behavior issues that should arise should be brought to the attention of the rescue to decide how to address them.
  • Vet appointments, vaccinations, or other medical will need to be done and transportation of the dog to and from its appointments will need to be arranged by fosters.
  • Fosters may need to bring their dog to Wrightwood’s Littlest Pet Shop during open hours or during other adoption events to make the animal available when it is ready.

  • Please note: kittens need to be fostered in 2’s or 3’s so that they grow up with a sibling, singletons will be fostered with kittens from other litters when possible.
